Sloane Sivek - 4th of July Portraits on Tempe Town Lake - Arizona Senior Photographer

I tried to think of a clever title for this blog post, but all the patriotic song titles were a little too cliche for me.

I put together this session super last minute. People in Arizona don't exactly celebrate the 4th to the extent that everyone does in Indiana, but who would I be if I passed up the opportunity for a themed session.

There's a high risk fire danger throughout all of Arizona currently (and most of the West), so I passed on my typical sparkler and smoke bomb portraits and went with some cute, simple photos down on Tempe Town Lake.

After it took Sloane & I 45 minutes to find each other, we finally got to take some gorgeous photos at the end of golden hour & beginning of blue hour.

These portraits were super simple, but honestly some of my favorites (sometimes simple is the best I've learned).

Hope everyone has an amazing & safe 4th of July!

I'm Moving

If you're close with me or you frequently read my Instagram posts, it's probably been pretty obvious what my news is. I wouldn't be me if I didn't write a blog post to announce it though.

I'm moving. To Arizona. On April 6th.

To make a long story short and putting sentiment aside, my long-time boyfriend, Brannon Muncey, moved out to Tempe, Arizona in October. In case you haven't heard me talk about him enough, he's an extremely smart and talented individual who works as a software developer for State Farm. Needless to say, I've decided to move out there with him.

I graduated from Ball State University in December with a degree in photojournalism and a minor in sociology. I have wanted to move out West for as long as I can remember. I've lived in Muncie my entire life and I lived at home for my first three years of college. I don't think it needs to be said that I've been planning to leave this city for quite some time now.

And I could not be more excited. If you're wondering what it is I will be doing, I will be moving my business, Samantha Rose Photography, out there and focusing on it full time. I'm planning to also get into some freelance and working any part time photo job that I can find. It will be a process and one heck of an adventure.

My mom and I will be leaving Muncie on April 6 to travel to Fort Wayne. I had originally thought I would leave at the end of March, but my favorite band, All Time Low, will be performing in Fort Wayne that night. So we took that as a sign that we should wait to leave until the first week of April. From there we will travel across most of Route 66, stopping at every touristy destination and stop along the route. We'll also be taking a small detour to go to the Four Corners and the Grand Canyon. My mom and I have always wanted to go on cross-country road trip. We say we are the best travel companions because we love all of the cliché stuff and pretty scenery, but tend to go pretty fast when it comes to the history stuff. The last three years we have gone on three amazing trips for spring break. Chicago. California. New York City. So what better last trip to take than to drive me across the country.

In regards to my photo business, I will be booking sessions through April 4th. I'm trying to get in as many sessions as possible before I leave with anyone that has wanted to have their photos taken by me. I will also be coming back October 5th-13th to photograph a wedding and fit in as many photo sessions as possible while I'm back. (p.s. if you're interested in booking an October session, I'm offering $25 off any session booked with the retainer by April 4th so hit me up).

I can't even begin to express how lucky and happy I am that I get to do what I do. Photographing people and places and things and being able to do so anywhere.

I'll have more updates soon.

I can't wait to see what is ahead and where this adventure takes me. I hope you're ready for the ride too.

xx

2017: A Look Back

2017 was A YEAR. Let me tell you.

There's a line in The Ready Set's song, "Fire in the Sky" that says, "Last year I lost my sense of self, falling apart like someone else." That's really the only way to describe this year in a sentence.

You hear a lot about people trying to "find themselves" + I never really understood the whole sense of losing yourself until 2017. It was a wild + rough year.

My biggest gain from this (past) year was how much I grew as a photographer. I completely invested myself into my work + really tried to push my creativity + my business. This was my first year having multiple photo sessions every month. My first year where I was actually starting to take my business to the next level. I got to work with SO MANY amazing people. From clients of all types, models, make-up artists, and fellow photographers.

It has been crazy to see my photos progress + how I have developed a real style. I am SO excited for 2018. To express my creative eye. Grow to completely new levels. And hopefully see a lot of new places + meet a lot of new people. I am so excited for all the adventures to come. I'm ready for change. I hope you're ready to watch the crazy ride.

Here is a look back at all of my photo sessions from 2017.

(p.s. I know this post is LONG because I included a ton of photos, but I hope you scroll to the end + let me know what your favorite photo was of mine from 2017).

Here's to the next adventure.
